Chief Secretary of the JVP Tilvin Silva says the party has requested a discussion with the Inspector General of Police pertaining to the accusations being levelled over JVP involvement in the violence on the 9th of May.
Silva refuted all charged that are being levelled at the JVP.
He said several concerns arise with reports emerging that the IGP has cited JVP involvement in the violence.
Parliamentarian Arundika Fernando speaking in Parliament yesterday charged that a majority among the suspects arrested over the unrest are supporters of the JVP as claimed by the IGP.
Silva said if such claims are true the IGP must provide a list of names of such persons.
He noted that according to MP Fernando, of 400 suspects 150 were JVP supporters and questioned whose faction the remaining 250 were politically affiliated to.
Tilvin Silva further said instead of resolving prevalent issues in the country, Parliament is discussing damages to the residences of MPs.
He added Parliament is discussing their grievances while the public is toiling on streets without fuel, gas, electricity, milk powder and other essentials.
Silva claimed the public is battered by the current economic crisis and charged that Parliament has failed to discuss solutions.
He further stated that Parliament has failed to discuss the deaths of nine individuals who passed away of illnesses while standing in queues.
