The JVP says the government’s inability has been forced on to the general public by means of increasing prices of goods.
Speaking during a media briefing in Colombo, former Member of Parliament Sunil Handunnetti said the government has failed in both governing the country and controlling the prices of essential goods.
He said the milk powder importers have already announced a kilogram of milk powder packet will be increased by Rs. 350 to Rs. 1,300 while the 400 gram packet by Rs. 140 to Rs. 520.
Former MP Handunnetti said this is only the beginning as prices of several other goods will also increase.
He noted the Litro and a private company had also requested from authorities to increase domestic cylinder prices which could rise by Rs. 1,200.
The former JVP MP said the public, while having to stay in long queues, will now have to pay exorbitant prices for goods.
He said although the Consumer Affairs Authority took certain decisions, the public has been burdened through price increases.
Former MP Handunnetti Sunil Handunnetti said it is evident that the government has no control over prices of goods or the country at present.
