The JVP claims there are several confidential information behind the decision to handover the Kerawalapitiya power plant to an American company.
Speaking during an online conference former JVP Parliamentarian Sunil Handunnetti said it is clear as several Cabinet Ministers were unaware of the decision, the company was chosen at will and it was done outside of the tender process.
He noted there are several concerns regarding the deal, adding that it was an unsolicited agreement.
Former MP Handunnetti questioned why the American company didn’t submit tenders, along with all other companies, during the tender process.
He also claimed the American company was informed of the prices submitted during the tender process, and a proposal was made lower than the other rates.
Handunnetti said the government must reveal the truth behind the agreements to the public.
Former MP Handunnetti added the public must understand that state resources must be protected for future generations.
He claimed however rulers are selling state assets at present, to benefit their associates.
Handunnetti said the public wants to know who is behind the agreement with the American company, at a time LNG gas is being introduced to the country.
