The JVP says the only way Sri Lanka can resolve the present economic, social and political crisis is to hold a General Election.
Speaking to media at a rally in Thalathuoya, member of the JVP Politburo KD Lal Kantha said the government is taking various measures to prevent an election.
Lal Kantha also criticized a recent statement by the Chairman of the Election Commission which claimed the country’s environment at present is not suitable for an election to be worked off.
JVP member Lal Kantha said the social and political crisis must be solved through an election to create stability in the country, and fix its economic issues.
He pointed out that political parties and the public are calling for parliament to be dissolved and for a new government to be created.
Lal Kantha dismissed the Election Commissioner’s comments of being unable to hold an election, and said he must obey orders if asked to organize a General Election despite his personal preference.
Lal Kantha claimed that the Commissioner’s comments show his bias nature towards supporting government tactics to hold off an election.
