Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna Parliamentarian Johnston Fernando has been ordered to surrender to the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court on or before 8pm today by the Court of Appeal.
The Criminal Investigation Department has also been directed not to arrest MP Fernando until 8pm.
The order was issued by an Appeals Court Bench comprising of Justices Sobhitha Rajakaruna and Dhammika Ganepola after considering a writ petition filed by the Parliamentarian.
Parliamentarian Johnston Fernando filed a writ petition at the Appeals Court yesterday seeking an order to prevent him from being arrested by the CID.
The Inspector General of Police, the CID and several other factions were named as respondents in the petition.
Parliamentarian Johnston Fernando was named a suspect in the unrest reported before Temple Trees and at Galle Face Green on the 9th of May.
Meanwhile, yesterday, the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court issued a warrant for the arrest of Parliamentarian Fernando over the incident.
