Today marks the 57th day of the non-partisan people’s struggle at Galle Face against President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and the government.

Anti-government protests have been organized in several cities island wide today in parallel to Gota Go Gama in Galle Face.

Initial steps of the protests are being worked off in Colombo throughout the day under the leadership of the Inter University Students Federation.

Meanwhile, the Fort Magistrate’s Court yesterday issued a Court order against a group of Galle Face protesters.

Accordingly, protesters have been prevented from entering the NSA Roundabout to Chaithya Road, NSA Roundabout to Janadhipathi Mawatha, Ceramic Junction to York Street, Bastian Mawatha, Mudalige Mawatha, Hospital Street, Bank Street, Baron Jayathilaka Mawatha, Chatham Street, and Canal Road.

The Fort Magistrate issued the order preventing the group from entering these roads, disrupting the public travelling in vehicles, and walking on pavements, under provisions of the Criminal Code.

The Police was informed to put up copies of the Court order on display.

Addressing media Convenor of the IUSF Wasantha Mudalige said President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and the government has created a situation where members of the pubic die while waiting in queues.

He noted consuming three meals a day has become a challenge for many and stated that the situation in the country was critical.

Mudalige said the President has failed to provide solutions to issues faced by various parties leading to people protesting in streets.

Mudalige condemned the actions of the government and said the IUSF had organised various protests across the island demanding the immediate resignation of the President and the government.

He said if the President does not step down, steps will be taken to remove the President from his post.
