The Inter-University Students Federation charges that the government plans to imprison members of the peoples struggle.
Convenor of the IUSF Wasantha Mudalige speaking to media recalled that a few prominent activists within the peoples struggle were arrested by authorities as a result.
However he stressed that a few arrests cannot drown the people’s movement.
Mudalige commented that the Rajapaksa’s brought in Ranil Wickremesinghe as Prime Minister, to do their bidding and save him from the people’s struggle.
He also stressed that more than 2,900 youth were arrested by police, due to their involvement in the peaceful struggle.
Mudalige also pointed out that former Minister Johnston Fernando and SDIG Deshabandu Tennakoon, who were main organisers of an attack on the youth protest, were not arrested by authorities.
He charged that the government has intervened to level bogus charges at protestors, claiming they destroyed public property.
The IUSF Convenor stressed that they will not bow down to the government and instead will continue with the protests.
