The island-wide token strike launched by postal workers based on 24 demands is currently in effect.
Postal workers claim the trade union action that commenced at 4 pm today will continue till midnight tomorrow.
The strike is expected to disrupt operations at the Colombo Central Mail Exchange, 653 post offices, and 3,410 sub-post offices.
Chairman of the Sri Lanka Post and Telecommunication Services Union Chinthaka Bandara speaking to NewsRadio said the strike is focused on addressing issues faced by employees of the Postal Department and concerns faced during distributions.
Bandara said discussions held this afternoon with the Secretary of the Ministry of Posts was futile, adding, therefore, they decided to withdraw from services and proceed with the union action.
