Parliamentarian Thushara Indunil Amarasena has questioned the government as to what would happen to the concept of ‘One Country, One Law’ when it is focused on imprisoning individuals like former Parliamentarian Ranjan Ramanayake who raised his voice against the government.
Speaking during a media briefing, MP Amarasena said the present administration is continuing to withdraw cases which need to be heard and attempting to bypass the law.
The Parliamentarian questioned what legal action was taken against the Mayor of Kurunegala over the demolition of a building with archaeological value in Kurunegala as it was a serious offence under the Antiquities Act.
He said public funds amounting to Rs. 15.9 billion have been misappropriated through the sugar scam adding no investigations were conducted into the incident.
Commenting on the issues faced by the farming community and a vessel entering the country with organic fertilizer from China, MP Amarasena said farmers island-wide are staging protests demanding the necessary fertiliser be given in order to engage in farming activities.
He claimed the government permitted a ship carrying harmful substances to enter into the country which the farming community did not request.
The Parliamentarian said a letter bearing the signature of 140 professors who are experts in the fields of plants, farming, agriculture and soil calling the government not to let the ship enter the country.
