President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has instructed the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption to conduct an investigation into the Sri Lankans cited in the Pandora Papers.
The President’s Media Spokesman said the President issued the directives this morning to conduct a prompt investigation.
The Pandora Papers is a leak of almost 12 million documents that reveals hidden wealth, tax avoidance and, in some cases, money laundering by some of the world’s rich and powerful.
Speaking at the weekly Cabinet media briefing, Cabinet Spokesman Minister Dullas Alahapperuma said the President issued directives to the Director General of Bribery to submit a report on investigations within a month.
The Minister said the Pandora Papers were discussed at yesterday’s Cabinet meeting under the patronage of the President, adding it was noted that a single government Minister has not been implicated in the leak.
Minister Alahapperuma added the Bribery Commission stated that any individual can lodge a complaint with the Commission in relation to the Pandora Papers.
