Parliamentarian Patali Champika Ranawaka claims the solution to the prevalent economic and political crisis does not lie in a flawed Rajapaksa rule, but in an interim-all party short-term government, that is committed to help the public recover from the current situation.
In a statement to media Parliamentarian Patali Champika Ranawaka called for the resignation of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to make way for such a government.
The MP added a limited time period should be announced by the President pertaining to his resignation.
MP Patali Champika Ranawaka said the interim government should move to abolish the 20th Amendment to the Constitution and limit the powers of the Executive Presidency while independent commissions should be re-established.
The MP stated democratic amendments to the Constitution should also be passed under such a government.
MP Ranawaka added the all-party interim government should also pave the way to conduct free and fair election under an independent Election Commission.
