The Department of Prisons has reached a decision to refrain from considering the reinstatement of prison officials who were interdicted for various reasons, until the relevant disciplinary inquiry or legal proceedings conclude.
The Prisons Department said special attention will be directed towards the matter as further retention of such officials will be detrimental to the wellbeing of the Department, adding steps will be taken to terminate their service or impose severe penalties if found guilty.
The steps will be taken against officials who are linked to corrupt activities and torture or assault of prisoners.
The Commissioner General of Prisons has informed all Superintendents and prison officials in this regard.
Meanwhile, the Prisons Department said a special telephone number was provided for prison inmates and their families to inform of illegal activities.
The Prisons Department said it will take steps to ensure anonymity regarding the information provided via the number, 0112678600.
