Inter-provincial buses and trains will resume operations today.
Accordingly 6,000 Sri Lanka Transport Board owned buses will be in operation from today.
State Minister of Vehicle Regulation, Bus Transport Services and Train Compartments and Motor Car Industry Dilum Amunugama said 152 office trains are due to be deployed from today, while long distance trains will be operational from the 5th of November.
State Minister Amunugama said tickets will be issued for train passengers.
The State Minister noted permission was granted for inter-provincial transport to resume, adding therefore all SLTB owned and private buses have been granted permission to operate, and are operating under the regular schedule.
He requested the private sector to operate buses, despite various concerns.
The State Minister requested all bus owners to strictly adhere to the regulation that passengers will only be transported up to seat capacity.
He said permission was granted for buses to operate under the promise that the regulation will be strictly enforced, with Police monitoring the situation.
State Minister Amunugama said permits of buses transporting passengers exceeding seat capacity will be seized from today.
