Sri Lanka’s inflation, as measured by the change in the Colombo Consumers’ Price Index (CCPI) increased to 54.6 percent in June 2022 from 39.1 percent in May 2022.
The Department of Census and Statistics said the CCPI for all items for the month of June 2022 increased to 220.2 from 195.2 in May 2022.
The Year on Year inflation of Food Group increased to 80.1 percent in June from 57.4 percent in May 2022 and the Year on Year inflation of Non Food Group increased to 42.4 percent in June 2022 from 30.6 percent in the previous month.
For the month of June 2022, on year‐to‐year basis, contribution to inflation by food commodities was 26.15 percent and the contribution of Non Food items was 28.58 percent.
The moving average inflation rate for the month of June 2022 is 18.4percent.
The corresponding rate for the month of May 2022 was 14.2 percent.
Accordingly, prices of items in the Non-Food category recorded increases mainly due to price increases observed in the transport (petrol, diesel and bus fare), restaurant & hotels, education, housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (LP gas, materials for maintenance/reconstruction, firewood purchasing), miscellaneous goods and services (car, insurance), and several other groups.
