Foreign Minister GL Peiris says India will provide an additional $500 million in financial assistance to Sri Lanka to purchase fuel.
The Foreign Minister quoted by Reuters said Bangladesh is meanwhile willing to postpone a $450 million in swap repayments.
Minister Peiris said assistance by the International Monetary Fund will take about six months to come to Sri Lanka and it will come in tranches.
He added during the intervening period, Sri Lanka must find funds to keep citizens supplied with essentials.
