Indian High Commissioner in Colombo Gopal Baglay says India will help Sri Lanka stage an “early and effective” economic recovery.
Speaking to the Indian Express, High Commissioner Baglay said India also wishes that the ongoing transition in Sri Lanka will be “smooth.”
He noted that India, which has helped Sri Lanka with almost $4 billion in aid, would bring in more investment to help build capacities to respond to the economic challenges.
Meanwhile, an Indian all-party meeting will be held today over the crisis in Sri Lanka, with briefings by Ministers Nirmala Sitharaman and S Jaishankar, following appeals by Tamil Nadu-based parties to intervene in the crisis.
Last week, the Ministry of External Affairs said, “India stands with the people of Sri Lanka as they seek to realise their aspirations for prosperity and progress through democratic means and values, established institutions and constitutional framework.”
