India’s External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar and Foreign Minister Prof. GL Peiris today engaged in bilateral discussions in New Delhi.
The two parties discussed prospects of economic investment initiatives to strengthen Sri Lanka and exchanged views on the fishermen issue.
Minister Jaishankar said productive talks were held that focused on additional steps to enhance Sri Lanka’s energy security.
Both ministers recognized the importance of greater tourism for economic recovery.
They also noted the importance of people to people linkages through greater connectivity.
Jaishankar tweeted “Exchanged views on the fishermen issue and agreed that bilateral mechanisms should meet early. Recognized the importance of greater tourism for economic recovery”.
Minister Peiris arrived in Delhi yesterday on a three-day visit to India.
During his visit, the Minister is expected to meet Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla.
The two Foreign Ministers last met in September last year in New York and held a comprehensive discussion on the close partnership between the two countries.
