State Minister Shehan Semasinghe says 367 goods from today, can be imported only by obtaining a license, adding the import of certain goods has been restricted and not banned.
The State Minister joining the debate in Parliament said given the present situation in the country a short term decision was reached to restrict certain imports in order to control inflation and to control the outflow of foreign reserves.
He claimed that such decisions were reached in order to manage the economy amidst the many challenges and external threats.
Semasinghe noted that COVID-19 was also a stumbling block in economic development, adding that the pandemic was successfully addressed and mitigated through the leadership of the President.
