Samagi Jana Balawegaya Parliamentarian Dr. Harsha De Silva says the International Monetary Fund does not impose any conditions on countries.
Speaking at a media briefing in Colombo today the MP said the notion that the IMF imposes conditions such curtailing concessions provided to the public, are false.
MP De Silva said a country introduces a programme to evaluate debt adding it is not conditions but a programme.
He claimed that when a loan is obtained from a bank, it is evaluated according to personal proposals and requirements and not according to the bank, adding that IMF support is similar to this.
The Parliamentarian claimed a false scare is being created regarding the IMF.
Joining the media briefing, MP Eran Wickramaratne said Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday during the event to inaugurate construction work of the East Container Terminal said, the past two years should be forgotten and that the future must be the main focus.
MP Wickramaratne questioned as to who should be held responsible for the shortcomings during the past two years.
The MP said a monopoly was created, the government claimed a two thirds majority in Parliament, and the 20th Amendment to the Constitution was introduced.
He charged that despite such powers the government failed to manage the economy diligently.
