Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa today reiterated that he will not resign from the post of Prime Minister.
The Prime Minister expressed his views at a discussion with Ministers and members of Provincial Councils at the Temple Trees this morning.
Premier Rajapaksa said queues for essential services including fuel, gas, electricity, and medicines must be brought to an end.
The Prime Minister believes that queues can be brought to an end within a short time period.
The Prime Minister also stated that the government is committed to overcoming all challenges.
Meanwhile, the Office of the Prime Minister said the Provincial Councillors’ Forum unanimously passed a resolution at the discussion that neither Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa nor the government should resign.
The Forum will also inform President Gotabaya Rajapaksa of the resolution.
Members of the Forum highlighted that it is essential for Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa to continue in the post of Prime Minister to uplift the country from the current economic crisis.
The Premier said the country is going through a decisive time with the people facing many difficulties.
He added the former government handed over a country that was depleted both in the economy and national security.
Premier Rajapaksa added at the time they called for power to improve economic conditions but were met with the challenge of the coronavirus pandemic which the world did not anticipate.
The Prime Minister said the government prioritised saving lives from the virus and not protecting governing power.
The Premier added the very same people who they saved from the coronavirus are now probably protesting on the streets demanding the government’s resignation.
