Former President Maithripala Sirisena says he conducted an unbiased investigation into the controversial Treasury bond transactions during his term as President.
Former President Sirisena vehemently rejected the allegations levelled by the JVP at a media briefing yesterday against him and his family related to alleged corrupt transactions.
The former President speaking at a media briefing at the Sri Lanka Freedom Party headquarters today said, Wasantha Samarasinghe of the Voice Against Corruption yesterday made a statement that his son-in-law, his three children, and himself received funds through Perpetual Treasuries, who are respondents in the case being heard over the transactions.
The former President said requests were made by the public to initiate an unbiased investigation into the incident following which a Presidential Commission of Inquiry comprising Supreme Court judges was appointed to investigate the matter.
Sirisena added he made sure that investigations were able to be conducted in a transparent manner in order to file charges against the perpetrators, as he genuinely sought to ensure justice.
The former President stated the public’s attention was drawn to the operations of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry unlike other commissions owing to its transparency.
The former President also stated during investigations Rs.11 billion of Perpetual Treasuries was placed at the Central Bank through his intervention on the request of the Presidential Commission.
The former President added the current government withdrew the funds for development initiatives.
