Minister Ali Sabry says he will continue to serve as the Minister of Finance.
Speaking in Parliament today, Minister Sabry claimed he tendered his resignation with the hope that someone more suitable would take over the portfolio after President Gotabaya Rajapaksa handed over the Ministry of Finance to him.
The Minister said however he will continue to serve as the Finance Minister for the benefit of the country until a more suitable individual is appointed since no opposition Parliamentarian came forward to accept the portfolio.
He said it is common knowledge that the international community including the International Monetary Fund, friendly nations and the Delegation of the European Union has issued warnings that the prevailing political uncertainty poses a threat to the country’s future.
Minister Sabry said the opposition declined an invitation to form an interim government claiming it may have been due to fears of being ridiculed.
The Minister said he stepped forward disregarding such concerns due to the love for his nation.
The Minister said he will strive to do his best for the benefit of the country claiming they have not entered into politics with the aim of securing personal gains
