Officials in the hotel trade have requested the President to formulate a programme to encourage foreign tourists to the country.
Chairman of the Kandy Hoteliers Association Rodney Armstrong speaking in Kandy said the failure to showcase the country’s tourist destinations is a shortcoming of the Ministry of Tourism.
Armstrong said they understand the situation in the country, adding however all issues must be addressed.
He noted that since the Easter Sunday attacks in 2019 the tourism industry has faced numerous issues, adding that the tourism and hotel industry is the first to be affected whenever crisis hits.
He said the industry has been battered since the 30-year long conflict.
