The group of 11 parties who were part of the government previously, claims that the present administration has commenced horse-trading for its political survival.
Parliamentarians who defected from the government say those running the country now are engaged in cheap politics.
Representatives of the 11 parties convened a special meeting yesterday to discuss the on-going political crisis.
Speaking to media, Parliamentarian Wimal Weerawansa said they will take certain stern decisions against the government.
MP Weerawansa claimed that the government is dragging the crisis without providing solutions to the people.
He said the government is attempting to continue its rule by changing a few Ministerial posts.
MP Weerawansa is of the view that the public will not allow the same set of people to run the country and said his faction will also exert pressure and demand the resignation of the Prime Minister and the entire government.
Speaking to media, MP Dayasiri Jayasekara noted that horse-trading is unacceptable and noted that the public will not fall for the government’s cheap political gimmicks this time.
He added that they were holding discussions to form an interim administration to resolve the present crisis and yet, the government had acted arbitrarily and lured a Sri Lanka Freedom Party MP by handing a Ministerial post.
MP Jayasekara stressed that they will not hesitate to take to the streets, if the government continues to run the country without easing the burden of the people.
Meanwhile, Ven. Athuraliye Rathana thera said the government is setting a wrong precedent and they will not remain silent amidst the current crisis.
Athuraliye Rathana thera noted they are demanding the resignation of the Prime Minister and the appointment of an individual who is willing to listen and work with other political parties.
