The All Island Three-Wheeler Drivers and Owners Association has decided to increase the fare for the first kilometre to Rs.120 in areas outside of the Western Province.
Media and Propaganda Secretary Kapila Galapitage speaking at a media briefing said the decision was reached owing to the fuel price hike that came into force yesterday.
He said a decision was reached to increase the fare for the first kilometre to Rs.100 with effect from yesterday while Rs.80 will be charged for each kilometre thereafter in the Western Province.
Galapitage said 900,000 individuals are part of the three-wheeler trade.
He noted that especially in hilly areas outside of the Western Province, fuel consumption is higher and therefore a decision was reached to enforce an alternate price rate per kilometre.
