The Joint Council for Professions of Supplementary Medicine warns that the prices of many essential medicines could increase exponentially in the future following the government’s decision to increase the price of all medicines by 29 percent.
The Council said some medicines can cost up to three times its current price.
President Ravi Kumudesh said the government held discussions in secret and increased prices by 29 percent in an arbitrary manner.
He said the increase will lead to medicines having no control price adding that medicine that is not available at government hospitals will have to be purchased at private pharmacies at higher rates.
Kumudesh added, medicine prices could therefore increase by threefold.
Kumudesh urged the President to reduce the commissions and under hand dealings related to medicine in order to control prices of medicines.
