Leader of the United National Party former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe says public requests for a revolutionary change must be heeded.

Speaking during an event in Colombo last evening, former Prime Minister Wickremesinghe said the public including the youth have taken to the streets demanding the immediate resignation of the government and a system change adding however the Parliament has failed to provide a proper solution thus far.

The former Prime Minister said various individuals are calling for a change in governance, the resignation of the President and the Prime Minister adding the opposition bears the same sentiment however the government carries mixed ideas.

The former Premier said decisions reached by the Parliament will not be fruitful if the public does not accept them.

Former Premier Wickremesinghe said the crisis cannot be resolved without understanding the ground reality.

The former Premier said there is no use of a coup in the palace when there is a revolution out on the streets.

Meanwhile, former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe called for Parliament to be convened next week for the Minister of Finance’s report on the International Monetary Fund meeting to be tabled in Parliament.

The former Premier also called for a consensus to be reached on the government’s economic road map moving forward.
