Samagi Jana Balawegaya Parliamentarian Hector Appuhamy has requested the government to reveal the stakeholders of the large sums of profit gained through the duty-free import of essential goods amidst the lack of a control price.

MP Appuhamy said the country will be facing shortages of rice, vegetables, grains, and fruits due to fertiliser not being provided in a timely manner.
He said the government instead reduced the tax levied on imported essential items adding the public too was misled to think the government reached the decision considering the public.

He urged the government to provide necessary facilities in order for the public to enjoy the benefits of increasing production.
The Parliamentarian said export production must be increased as the country requires dollar reserves to import essential items.
He added providing part of the export production to the public for consumption will resolve their issues.
