Convenor of the Academy of Health Professionals Ravi Kumudesh says an indefinite strike action will be launched if the government fails to comprehend the message of today’s strike action.
Kumudesh said citizens have been engaged in a struggle for a lengthy period, adding it is not a personal agenda, but a move against the failed leadership of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and the many flaws in the Prime Minister that have led to the country being severely affected.
He claimed the people are demanding their resignation in order to steer the country in the right direction.
Therefore, Kumudesh said trade unions were compelled to rally together.
Ravi Kumudesh added, trade union members will hoist black flags at workplaces, and individuals engaged in essential services will be clad in black when reporting to work.
He urged the government to step down, and called on all individuals including the opposition to rally together to achieve this goal.
Kumudesh said the people’s struggle will continue until desired results are achieved, adding they will engage in an island wide hartal on the 6th of May.
