The Government Midwives’ Association charges that a practical programme is not in place despite claims by the government that Fridays have been allocated for health workers to obtain fuel.
Chairperson of the Association Devika Kodituwakku speaking at a media briefing in Kandy today said health workers cannot fight for fuel at filling stations.
Kodituwakku said the government announced that 95 filling stations on Fridays will be allocated for health workers to obtain fuel.
She charged that only a handful of filling stations were supplied fuel yesterday and that too at night time.
Kodituwakku said around 10pm fuel bowsers were dispersed to filling stations adding that Policemen were seen topping up their vehicles including personal vehicles.
