Health units warn that more than six million individuals above the age of 20 who have not received the COVID-19 booster vaccine doses are at risk of contracting the virus.
Chief Epidemiologist Dr. Samitha Ginige speaking to media said individuals with inherent illnesses above the age of 60, must obtain the booster doses.
Dr. Ginige said the booster dose has been recommended for all individuals above 20 years of age.
He added that of the 14.4 million population that is above 20 years, only eight million individuals have received the booster shot.
He stated that an individual who obtains the first booster shot can obtain the second booster three months after the first booster jab.
Dr. Ginige reiterated that the virus will severely affect the elderly, especially those with underlying illnesses.
