A discussion will be held today with the participation of several trade unions of the health sector to reach a decision over whether an indefinite strike action will be carried out based on several demands, including salary anomalies.
Convenor of the Academy of Health Professionals Ravi Kumudesh said representatives of a number of health trade unions, including nurses, supplementary health workers, Public Health Inspectors, and family health workers, will join the discussion.
He said failure by the government to address salary anomalies, will result in indefinite strike action from February.
Kumudesh added the matter was discussed at length at a meeting held yesterday claiming the role of the Ministry of Health was strongly criticised.
He said members of trade unions also discussed the prevalent COVID-19 situation in the country and how they should act accordingly.
Kumudesh however noted that a majority were opposed to the lack of action on the part of the Ministry of Health regarding their demands and the spike in coronavirus cases.
He noted that a final decision on future measures will be reached at today’s meeting.
