The indefinite strike action launched by several trade unions in the health sector including supplementary medical staff and nurses enters the fourth day today.
Convener of the Health Trade Union Confederation Ravi Kumudesh said they have received support for the strike action from patients, the general public and from other unions.
He said therefore they will continue to strike until their seven demands are met.
Ravi Kumudesh noted although patients are inconvenienced, they are staging the strike for the greater good of the health service.
He said the issues faced by health workers, especially the current salary scheme should not be left unresolved for the future generation.
Kumudesh also noted that every matter or an issue should not be politicized. He said if their demands are met, they will return to duty immediately.
Ravi Kumudesh also noted that authorities must take action against the Deputy Director of the Colombo South Teaching Hospital, for making certain statements regarding hospital workers.
He said if disciplinary action is not taken, even if unions end their strikes, Kalubowila Hospital staff may not return to duty.
Meanwhile, the general public was severely inconvenienced as a result of the strike action launched island wide in the past three days.
