Health sector trade unions launched a 24-hour strike action this morning as of 7am.
Convener of the Association of Health Professionals, Ravi Kumudesh said the strike will be in effect at all hospitals in the North East adding the strike is based on several demands.
He said all staff affiliated to the health sector including nurses and supplementary medical service providers, Public Health Inspectors, laboratory professionals, and family health planning officers will join the strike.
Kumudesh said they will end the union action in the Uva Province today.
He called on the Minister of Finance and the government to refrain from using the current economic crisis as an excuse and to provide a platform for the people to resolve their issues through talks with officials.
