The Government Medical Officers’ Forum alleges that certain health trade union leaders are acting on political interests.
President of the Forum Dr. Rukshan Bellana speaking to media regarding the indefinite strike launched by several health trade unions said unions must have flexibility and cordiality when working with governments.
Dr. Bellana condemned the union action.
He said when trade unions demand their rights, patients must also be represented, adding the Government Medical Officers’ Forum stands in support of patients affected by the union action.
He said current trade union leaders are misled by political agendas while union members believe the demands are made on their behalf.
The President of the Forum said trade union members are unaware of the political motives behind union action.
He said individuals who charged him of being a pawn of former Minister of Health Rajitha Senarathne, might now accuse him of supporting the present administration.
Dr. Bellana claimed local health trade unions are under the impression that their demands can be won by acting against the government.
He said in no country can demands be won through such actions.
