Several trade unions representing health professionals will engage in an island wide strike action on the 9th of November over six demands.
Co-convener of the Federation of Health Professionals Ravi Kumudesh speaking at a media briefing yesterday said the strike is focused on six overdue unresolved demands.
He said issues that persisted over a number of years are yet to be resolved while discussions have not been held either.
Therefore, Kumudesh said all affiliated unions will join the strike action. He charged the Ministry of Health of only considering the views of MBBS professionals and disregarding other individuals.
He said they were hopeful of the Health Secretary providing solutions to their grievances but to no avail.
Ravi Kumudesh added emergency and essential services, COVID-19 related duties, maternity, children, and cancer hospitals and the Blood Bank will continue to function as usual on the 9th.
He urged the Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella to solve their issues adding that they disregarded their concerns due to COVID-19.
He said there is no other alternative apart from the strike action.
