Health trade unions claim if the President or the Minister of Health fail to respond to three demands, union action will resume at the end of the 14-day temporary suspension of the strike.
President of the Academy of Health Professionals Ravi Kumudesh said they engaged in the strike over a lengthy period based on seven demands.
He said the recent strike was carried out over nine days and during talks with the Minister of Health they reached an interim agreement over four demands while solutions to three demands are pending as the Minister is unable to meet the demands himself.
Therefore, Kumudesh added they expect the President to intervene and provide solutions to the three demands.
He also claimed that Ven. Muruthethettuwe Ananda thera who was part of the strike and betrayed trade unions holding talks with the President, the Health Minister and officials of the Ministry is futile adding that such actions will not help address their concerns.
He claimed that the unions are willing to engage in discussions to seek solutions to their concerns.
