The Health Professionals Federation engaged in a vehicle protest in Colombo this afternoon based on seven demands.
The protest commenced opposite the Colombo Municipal Council and proceeded to Colombo, Fort.
The Federation is seeking prompt solutions to their grievances. Co-Convener of the Federation Saman Rathnapriya said the government and health authorities have failed to solve health professionals’ issues and charged that medicine prices at present have risen by 300%.
He said the government has even failed to provide a free mask to school children.
Rathnapriya said the government is yet to solve overtime allowance anomalies and has not recognised the nursing degree or the supplementary services degree.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the Interim Health Services Joint Front Upul Rohana speaking to media said the Minister of Health has made a statement that he will not entertain trade unions.
However, Rohana said they are prepared to hold discussions with the subject Minister and stated that today’s protest marks the beginning of the union action.
