The Academy of Health Professionals says the Ministry of Health lacks financial discipline.
President of the Academy Ravi Kumudesh said therefore more attention must be paid regarding financial management of the health sector.
He claimed a massive racket is taking place as a result of the tender process followed by the Health Ministry when purchasing equipment and essential health supplies.
Speaking to NewsRadio Ravi Kumudesh said instead of wasting funds by bringing in more equipment while there is equipment, the minimum and maximum costs per patient and the minimum and maximum cost that can be incurred to conduct a test must be assessed.
He added a special money control policy regarding these matters must be followed.
Kumudesh called for a committee to be appointed to lodge complaints regarding corruption and wastage and to look into such matters. He stressed there is no use of conducting investigations after the wastage has occurred adding wastage of funds must be prevented.
He added it’s a responsibility of the Ministry of Health. He said the Academy presented facts in this regard to the Health Ministry and informed the President in writing to implement a programme in this regard.
