The Ministry of Health says the Director of the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital has not been instructed to reinstate Dr. Mohamad Shafi Shiyabdeen, who was previously sent on compulsory leave on allegations of performing illegal sterilisation surgeries on women.
Issuing a statement clarifying the facts pertaining to information revealed yesterday, Additional Secretary to the Ministry of Health DLU Peiris said the Director of the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital has been informed of further action to be taken against Dr. Sihabdeen in accordance with the Establishments Code.
The Ministry of Health yesterday issued directives to reinstate Dr. Mohamad Shafi Shiyabdeen.
Dr. Shafi Shiyabdeen, an Obstetrics and Gynaecology Specialist at the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital, was accused of allegedly performing illegal sterilisation surgeries on women.
An order was also issued to pay his salary arrears.
The Kurunegala Hospital Director was informed of the decision in a letter directed by the Secretary of the Ministry of Health Major General Sanjeewa Munasinghe.
