The Samagi Jana Balawegaya says the coronavirus has become a gift that is awarded to the public by the government.

Parliamentarian Harshana Rajakaruna speaking at a media briefing yesterday said the government’s repeated failed decisions have negatively impacted the public.

MP Rajakaruna said with COVID-19 being identified in Sri Lanka close to 16,000 individuals have succumbed to the virus due to inefficiencies of the government.

He charged that during the first wave the government failed to close airports and failed to commence the vaccination drive sooner.

He claimed that when the second wave broke out the government failed to heed requests to impose a lockdown in the Gampaha District, leading to a vast outbreak of the coronavirus.

The Parliamentarian claimed that while a healthy person contracting coronavirus is manageable, an individual with inherent illnesses or other complications could face severe complications.

He accused the government of failing to enforce decisions to curb the spread of the coronavirus.
