The Association of Government Medical Laboratory Technologists has questioned why the official facing charges over erasing data from the National Medicines Regulatory Authority database is not being revealed.
Speaking during a media briefing President of the Association Ravi Kumudesh said it is concerning that the information is being concealed at a time when the names of persons who face charges over minor crimes are being revealed.
He noted the NMRA has stated that the data was erased by an engineer and questioned why his name is not revealed to the public.
Kumudesh added the Criminal Investigation Department had reportedly arrested an individual over the incident.
Kumudesh requested the President to handover the NMRA under the authority of Minister of Health Keheliya Rambukwella.
Kumudesh further stated several concerns had arisen regarding the regulation, manufacturing and distribution of medicines.
Kumudesh said the entire process has been politicised, adding that despite a State Ministry being named to uplift laws and standards of medicines, its goals haven’t been met thus far.
He urged the President to direct attention towards the matter.
