The committee appointed to investigate and resolve gas cylinder fires and explosions has issued a set of practical guidelines to be followed to prevent accidents involving the use of domestic gas cylinders.
A series of instructions has been issued in view of the recent incidents related to gas cylinder accidents in various parts of the country.
The first recommendation is ensuring the dealer inspects a gas cylinder upon purchase to ensure there are no leaks in the cylinder.
It has also been recommended, that in the event of a gas leak or a suspected leak, to remove the cylinder from the house and place it in a well-ventilated outdoor area.
In the event of a suspected cylinder leak, the gas dealer or the nearest Police Station must be notified. Issues related to gas cylinders can also be reported by contacting 0115 811 927 or 0112 811 929, that are linked to the committee appointed to look into the matter.
The committee appointed by the President also directed the public to refrain from conducting unnecessary inspections on gas cylinders as they could lead to serious accidents, especially through non-scientific methods of testing cylinders.
The committee said it is conducting an in-depth study of gas-related accidents reported in several areas and is also conducting further scientific investigations.
A total of 131 gas leak related incidents have been reported since the beginning of 2021.
A statement issued by the committee said the highest number of incidents, 56, were reported due to the explosion of gas stoves or the gas stove shattering.
