The Geological Survey and Mines Bureau has commenced a new programme to locate mineral resources with the use of modern technology.
The VLF receiver will be used to locate minerals.
The Bureau said the equipment, valued at Rs.3.5 million, was purchased from France and can detect mineral resources within a 10-100km radius.
Meanwhile, it has also been revealed that certain individuals who obtained permits have not engaged in mineral resource discoveries for over 10 years.
Minister of Environment Mahinda Amaraweera accordingly instructed officials to revoke permits of persons who do not engage in mineral resource explorations within five year period.
