Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa says individuals who benefit from projects initiated by the government, are the same group that criticises the government while reaping its benefits.

Premier Rajapaksa expressed his views during the opening of the second phase of the Central Expressway from Mirigama to Kurunegala, the Athugalpura Entrance, last evening.

The Prime Minister said charges were levelled when the Central Expressway project was initiated that the cost for the expressway could have been used to carpet the road in gold.

The Premier charged that after 2015 the good governance government failed to initiate construction of the 37km Kadawatha-Mirigama stretch, adding that had they done so, today the government would be completing the stretch to Kurunegala.

However, the Prime Minister said the current government had to continue the project from where it stopped adding that the expressway will be completed by 2024.

Premier Rajapaksa said the government dedicated themselves to constructing roads while ensuring the public can travel along these roads without having to obtain approval, unlike during the conflict.
