Civil society organisations have commended the governments stance that the Provincial Council Elections will be held in March.
Speaking at a media briefing in Kandy yesterday, Civil Activist Attorney Lal Wijenayake said further delaying of the Provincial Council Election owing to the coronavirus is futile.
He said ineffective Provincial Councils is a major factor in a democratic framework.
He said many questions are raised over whether an election should be held owing to the coronavirus adding that the General Election was held amidst the coronavirus.
Wijenayake said all countries have adapted to COVID-19 claiming all other efforts cannot be shunned adding it will lead to the destruction of a country.
Wijenayake on a separate note said investments does not translate to the sale of state resources.
He added investments are expected to help pay back a country’s debt.
However Lal Wijenayake said there is no future vision in order to help lift the country from the prevalent economic crisis.
