State Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna says the government will directly intervene if rice mill owners exploit the freedom, they have been granted pertaining to stipulating rice prices.
The State Minister said prices stipulated by rice mill owners is unjust.
Rice mill owners yesterday announced new prices for rice with the government’s decision to lift the control price imposed on rice.
State Minister Alagiyawanna speaking at a media briefing yesterday said the government and the Consumer Affairs Authority will intervene and take action if any injustice is reported in a bid to protect consumers.
The State Minister added 100,000MT of rice is being imported through the intervention of the Ministry of Trade based on a Cabinet of Ministers decision, claiming it will be available at affordable rates.
