Minister of Agriculture Mahindananda Aluthgamage says the government will take complete responsibility over the organic fertiliser that is provided to farmers.
Speaking at a media briefing today, Minister Aluthgamage said the government will compensate farmers in the event of any injustice farmers are faced with following the use of the fertiliser.
The Minister said a circular in this regard will be issued next week.
He said the Minister directed all Agri-Research officers to make thorough observations of the process.
The Minister requested media to not merely focus on the shortcomings of the organic fertiliser programme but to also considered its benefits and value.
Minister Aluthgamage said the farming community protested against the government when fertiliser was available for the Yala season that helped reap harvests.
He claimed various Professors have commented on the standards of fertiliser that misleads the farming community.
Minister Aluthgamage questioned why such individuals commented on the standards of chemical fertiliser imported during previous times.
