Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa claims the government will be overthrown at the earliest opportunity.

Speaking during an event in Ududumbara this morning, MP Premadasa questioned whether a government which failed to provide fertiliser, caused a gas crisis, created a queuing era, and attempted to embezzle funds from the Employees Provident Fund must remain in power.

The Opposition Leader said the International Monetary Fund has not yet made an official announcement that Sri Lanka has not requested financial assistance adding the government must reveal the truth about the situation to the public.

MP Premadasa said the Minister of Finance and the IMF are making contradictory statements.

He questioned why the present administration was misleading the public.

The Opposition Leader said the country is now facing a similar situation to the 1970-1977 era.
