The Samagi Jana Balawegaya charges the government of using the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks to achieve its political agenda.
Speaking to media Parliamentarian Patali Champika Ranawaka claimed the government is engaged in an effort to oppress Catholic activists including priests who are calling for justice for the victims of the bombings.
MP Ranawaka added the government is spreading false claims among the Catholic community.
MP Ranawaka said while a group within the government was strongly criticising Archbishop of Colombo Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith, who was seeking justice, another group was attempting to cause divisions within the church by stating there was a conspiracy against the Cardinal within the church.
He added attempts are also underway to incite hatred towards the Cardinal and the Catholic community, amongst Buddhists. The MP stated attempts are also underway to make the Catholic community question the Cardinal and church officials, by claiming there is an internal conflict.
MP Ranawaka requested the government to refrain from engaging in such efforts.
MP Patali Champika Ranawaka also called for the details included in the 22 volumes of evidence regarding investigations into the Easter attacks to be revealed.
He added the government has only revealed one of the 23 volumes containing evidence of the attacks.
MP Ranawaka said details provided by him before the Presidential Commission of Inquiry that investigated the Easter attacks is also included in a volume that has not been revealed, and called for the government to publicise it, and conduct an investigation.
He added instead, the government is engaging in a mudslinging campaign, in an attempt to mislead the public.
